Museum dedicated to 19th-century canal. Museum charting the history of an 1880s commercial canal, with models & remains of its locks.
"Beautiful, mossy trails along the Ogeechee River with informational markers on the canal. The river keeper, Connie, is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the historic landmark and the local ecology. Our young kids enjoyed the swamp plants, vegetation and abundant animal life using their binoculars to embrace the views. The museum itself is being restored after the major flood but still boasts interesting artifacts and historical photos. We will be back for the hiking trails!"
"Beautiful woodland/wetland museum provides education about the history of the canal, the technologies of the locks, as well as walking trails connecting you with the Nature of the area and lovely views of the Ogeechee River. A little local treasure and the keepers invite the opportunity for community involvement."
"What a wonderful place. The lady that runs it is so friendly and helpful. This is a nature rich trail. There is a lot of wildlife and birds. The boardwalks are whimsical and inviting, it seemed like as one ended another would be welcoming you from off in the distance. The end view of the river was peaceful and there's a nice place to rest. Use bug spray before going, take water and a light snack if you're going to take your time reading the educational plaques with plant names and information. This is a beautiful chunk of preserved land with a lot of history, it is a treasure to be able to enjoy!"
